Winter Percussion 2002 Wrap Up

Congratulations to the Centerville HS Winter Drumline! Our group placed among the elite Scholastic groups at Winter Guard International's World Championships April 13-14. The percussion groups are split into three classes: A, Open, and World Class, with World being the most advanced. Centerville competes in World Class and made the Finals Competition this year, placing 11th in the world!

This was a great season for the drum line and it wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Band Boosters and parents! Thanks to everyone that helped throughout the season. We literally wouldn't be able to do what we do without all of you!

The drumline grew and matured all season long and at Finals pulled out a show that sometimes seemed nearly impossible! We should all be incredibly proud of the performance the members gave on Saturday night and the sophistication that they portrayed throughout the show and the entire Championships weekend. Thank you, members, for a wonderful experience.

Winter Percussion 2002 is well underway, using the passionate and emotional music of Maurice Ravel’s Bolero as its theme. Bolero was chosen because of it's familiarity, and many percussive opportunities.

The original music is one long crescendo with very repetitive musical themes, creating the opportunity to freely arrange the music to get lots of different feelings and ideas out of the same musical fabric.

The tarp on which the group performs the show is a 60' diameter circle with a black and white spiral in the center and a dark red perimeter. The instruments will be covered in red velvet and the uniforms are also red velvet with a spiral connecting the neck and the pants.

The directors and musicians are very excited about this year's show and we encourage everyone to come and see the 2002 Winter Percussion in competition!
