Based on
the works of William Blake
Music: Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Sonata #2
William Blake’s "A Poison Tree" (1794) stands as one of his most intriguing poems, memorable for its vengeful feel and sinister act of deceit. Through images, punctuation, and word choice, Blake warns that remaining silent about our anger only hinders personal and spiritual growth, making us bitter, and that a grudge left unchecked becomes dangerous, possibly even murderous.
Program designer Byron Valentine is enthusiastic about the 2009 production adding “it’s an interesting and exciting change of pace for Centerville – a colorguard not typically known for producing shows with dark, dynamic emotional impacts – and the kids have embraced this new identity with much vigor.” Joe Sowders, new to the Centerville design team, will be staging the 2009 production. The colorguard is under the direction of Jodi Fairbanks.
